The Soho Bluebeats are a Brighton reggae band and live ska and dub collective bringing vintage Jamaican soundsystem culture to Brighton Fringe, festivals, underground venues and international cultural events across the UK and beyond. Featuring musicians from the British reggae and ska scene, the project performs in multiple formats — from intimate live sessions to an 8-piece ensemble with full horn section.
Closely connected to Brighton Dub Club, the project draws inspiration from the golden age of bluebeat, rocksteady and early reggae, blending deep dub basslines, hypnotic rhythms and an unmistakable 1960s atmosphere with a modern live festival energy. From Brighton Fringe and seaside festivals to London club nights, street performances and international cultural events, The Soho Bluebeats create an immersive live reggae experience celebrating the spirit of Kingston, Soho and vintage Jamaican sound system culture.
Built as a flexible live reggae and ska collective, The Soho Bluebeats can perform in multiple formats — from an intimate 3-piece vintage street combo to a powerful full live band featuring musicians from the British reggae, ska and jazz scene. Depending on the event, the group can expand into a dynamic 8-piece ensemble with full horn section, percussion, Hammond organ, vintage rhythm section and guest vocalists, delivering everything from deep instrumental dub sessions to explosive festival ska performances.
Through its connection with Brighton Dub Club, the collective is also involved in original dub productions, exclusive dubplate releases and vintage-inspired reggae recordings emerging from the South Coast underground music scene.
